SOKCHO · PRACTICAL TRAVEL GUIDE

Sokcho without a car: a flexible 2-day itinerary

A first visit built around the market, Abai Village, beach and lake, with time left for meals and transport.

Day 1 — Arrive, settle in and explore the city

Travel from Seoul using the terminal on your booking. Leave luggage with your accommodation only after it confirms storage. Start with Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market for a meal or small snack.

Continue to Abai Village. If you want to use the gaetbae, check the landing, payment and service on the day. This is a neighbourhood visit: make room for its history as well as food.

Day 2 — Choose your waterside stops

Pick Sokcho Beach and a manageable section of Cheongchoho Lake Park. Check the connection between them; “without a car” can still include a bus or taxi.

If you prefer harbour scenery, substitute Yeonggeumjeong for one stop. Do not assume all of these places form a short continuous waterfront walk.

If the weather changes

Shorten exposed coast and lake walks. Consider a meal and covered market sections during light rain, checking individual businesses. During severe weather, follow local notices and postpone outdoor activities; a market visit is not a guaranteed severe-weather alternative.

Make the plan yours

Add individual stops from their guide pages to your selected date in My Trip. The route order here is a suggestion, not an automatically booked package. Keep your departure terminal and luggage collection time visible in your plan.

Build your two days around a main meal and a departure

Choose one main meal each day and place nearby sightseeing around it. This leaves room for queues and a slower arrival without turning every stop into a deadline. Keep transport time separate from the time you want to spend at each destination.

If the first day starts late, keep either the market or Abai Village as the main outing and move the other to the next day. A short, comfortable visit is more useful than completing an overloaded list.

Choose one of these second-day versions

  1. Beach version: a short seafront visit, a meal and a return to collect luggage before the terminal.
  2. Lake version: a chosen section of Cheongchoho Lake Park with time to rest, then the departure journey.
  3. Harbour version: Yeonggeumjeong as the main outdoor stop, with an optional meal if weather and transport suit.
  4. Slow version: revisit a favourite city spot and leave a generous departure buffer rather than adding another area.

How to use buses, taxis and walking together

Use walking for a checked section that everyone in the group is comfortable completing. Use a bus or taxi when a connection between districts would make the day tiring or uncertain. “Without a car” describes not driving your own vehicle; it does not require walking every link.

For a taxi pickup, save a clear Korean address or recognised entrance. For a bus, check the direction and the final walk from the stop. Neither choice removes the need to check the departure terminal at the end of the trip.

Two-day itinerary questions

Can I include Seoraksan as well? You would need to reduce the city plan and account for the full mountain journey. The three-day guide is a more flexible starting point if both are priorities.

What should I skip if it rains? Drop optional exposed walks first and check whether your chosen businesses are open. In severe weather, follow local instructions instead of trying to preserve the itinerary.
